“Just Keep Smiling” is a re-imagination of the second movement of my solo cello suite “Suite (of Childhood Learning).” With an insistent energy that teeters on the edge of joy and grit, the piece channels the way we learn as children to smile through awkwardness, discomfort and embarrassment. “Just Keep Smiling” was commissioned by bassist Zachary Cohen and written for Zach with great appreciation.
