The Esto-Ugric Project is a concert tour featuring music inspired by Estonian and Hungarian folk songs. Curated by Lembit Beecher, the concerts include his string quartet These Memories May Be True, along with music by Bartok, Tormis, Kodaly and five micro-commissions by Karen Ouzounian, Brad Balliett, Dan Sedgwick, Scott Wollschleger and Evan Premo. These new short works were inspired by the ca. 1911 folk song transcriptions of August Kiiss, Lembit’s Estonian great-grandfather. The concert at Curtis additional includes Lembit’s Three Songs of Remembered Love. The concerts feature Mary Bonhag, soprano, Evan Premo, double bass, Lembit Beecher, piano and the Aizuri Quartet. They were produced in conjunction with Scrag Mountain Music.
