A new string orchestra arrangement of These Memories May Be True sits at the center of a program titled Lineage, presented by the conductor-less chamber orchestra A Far Cry.

A Far Cry writes about the program:

Curated by Crier Miki Cloud
In this program, A Far Cry traces a line through history, family, and transformation.

We begin with Georg Muffat’s Passacaglia, a baroque masterpiece built on unceasing variation—a musical form that grounds the listener even as it evolves. Lembit Beecher’s These Memories May Be True, reimagined for string orchestra, explores the murky space between fact and family folklore, where meaning lives not in accuracy but in transmission. Four folk songs, arranged by A Far Cry, draw from deep wells of American roots music, telling stories of struggle, survival, and reclamation. And Bartók’s Divertimento for String Orchestra, the first major work ever performed by A Far Cry, returns not as nostalgia, but as a touchstone—vivid, visceral, and alive with renewed purpose.

This is a program about what remains true. About the histories we don’t just recall—but build on.
